AbSTRAL compost has been active for the last 15 years on the alternative swiss musical network. He’s back today with the album « Nébuleuses ». The rapper and poet's music is once again composed by the drummer and producer Pascal Lopinat. This album features a handful of other rappers and musicians (La Gale, Idal, Naomi Mabanda, Lélia Lortik, Obaké, L'œil fou). Words are chanted emphatically over catchy rhythms, embracing more than ever the sprawling and polymorphous nature of this music genra. A dense, singular universe that evokes Clipping, Moor Mother, Ausgang, Run the Jewels or Kae Tempest. Rebellious and hard-hitting.

Above all, what drives « Nébuleuses » is the irrepressible need to speak out. Writing as a political act. Visceral appeals to not stand still in facing all current realities (social inequalities, wars and genocides, climate crisis, issues linked to migration policies, systemic racism). A need to keep our minds on the blaze, so as not to die out and remain passive.

These political and societal reflections resonate through an introspective dimension. They express the various sensitivities linked to relationships, dreams and imagination, while exploring the darker side that characterises them: fear, death, doubts, illusions... so many antediluvian themes that make up a complex and powerful nebula, carried by a subtle poetry and an abundant sound universe that allows us to get glimpses of hope.

And if these themes require a language that is sometimes crude and direct, AbSTRAL compost's poetry is no less finely chiselled. He plays with words like rubber bands (stretching them, loosening them), collages them (tearing them, gluing them back together) and performs other incantations or sonic bewitchments punctuated by the most astonishing wordplay. His trademark impressive flow is also ever-present, serving as a common thread running throughout the fifteen tracks that make up « Nébuleuses ».

The album was recorded at Glaucal (Courfaivre, Jura) and Phonotope (Renens, Vaud) by Pascal Lopinat and AbSTRAL compost between 2020 and 2022. Mixing and mastering were done by Antoine Etter at Phonotope.
